The Delran Police Department will be transitioning to an outer vest carrier.

Some of you may have noticed Delran police officers wearing their body armor on the outside of their uniforms instead of under their shirts. The new look isn’t meant to be intimidating. Police officers wearing external body armor, or outer vests, are a recent trend in law enforcement. Outer vests are more comfortable and less restrictive than traditional inner vests. The outer vest allows officers to carry equipment on their vest that would normally be attached to their duty belt. Having the equipment on the vest instead of the belt takes weight off the hips and stress off the back. The outer carrier is also a bit cooler (temperature wise - not looking) and it gives the officers more pockets (cops love pockets). Officers can remove the outer vests while in the station, but quickly put them back on when needed.  The vest can also be removed quickly in situations where an officer needs first aid. There are many advantages to switching to the outer vest and it continues the recent trend toward making uniforms as comfortable and functional as possible.

Thanks to Lt. Williams and Ptlm. Shepard for modeling the new outer vest carriers.
